When the sunshine’s out, there’s really only one thing you should be doing: sitting outside in the sun, chatting with friends about anything other than work, and sipping a cold beer. Ahh.
Thankfully, you don’t have to desperately roam the streets looking for a pub with a decent garden.
From 27 April to 1 May, and 4 May to 7 May, Mile End Park will transform into London’s very own glorious Biergarten.*
*That’s the fancy way to say Beer Garden, if you’re wondering.
German Bierfest London will be London’s biggest ever Biergarten, with all kinds of glorious beer-themed delights to behold and enjoy.
It’s all open-air, so you can feel like you’re fully immersed in the joy of spring, and there will be loads of vintage wooden huts to wander around and pick up excellent food and souvenirs.
The food is all super traditional and made to go brilliantly with beer. We’re talking pretzels, bratwurst, bockwurst, and gingerbread hearts. Which is essentially all our dreams come true in carby form.
Oh, and, naturally, there’ll be more beer than you could shake a bratwurst on a stick at.
Delicious German beer served in traditionally giant two-pint glasses, to be more specific.
There’ll be three different types of beer to try, plus cocktails if you like the Biergarten vibe without the actual beer part.
Kids can come along and enjoy a fun activity area (with a traditional can-knockdown game) while you sip beers and lounge in the sun as a spring day requires.
It’ll be a lot more exciting than just sitting in your back garden and drinking booze, mind you.
As well as food and drink, the event will also feature an exclusive Bier Tent with table service for 1,200 people, with a live band and an incredible DJ show, and all the staff with be dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes – Lederhosen for men and Dirndl for women.
So there’ll be plenty of entertainment, too.
The whole idea is to celebrate life, rejoice at the end of winter, and welcome in spring – which is something we can all get behind after months of shivering in our giant coats.
If you fancy popping down, entrance to the open-air areas is totally free, or you can book a spot in the fancy tent through German Bierfest’s website.
Cheers to that.
