13 thoughts we all have on a Monday morning

Welcome to the special time of the week that is Monday morning. The weekend is over and you are now back to reality.

The alarm clock goes off, you’re forced to leave the warm comfort of your bed, put on fancy clothes and drag yourself to work.

The weekend has long gone, you forgot to pack your lunch, or iron your shirt and you’re now struggling with the almighty temptation to avoid calling in sick.

Here are some of the thoughts we’ve all had on a Monday morning.

1. What is that awful sound…

You are blissfully sleeping, and suddenly there is an absolutely awful sound. It is blaring in your ear, it hurts your brain and it awakes you from your peaceful slumber.

It is of course your alarm clock going off, demanding that you wake up.

2. Is it a bank holiday?

Once the alarm goes off you have a slight moment of madness as your brain tries to convince you that today is in fact a bank holiday. Sadly it is not, and the countdown to work has begun.

3. Must snooze

You decide to snooze for a few minutes, but in reality it’s never really a few minutes. Before you know it a whole hour has passed and you wake in sheer utter panic.

This results in you being late for work, and explaining quietly to your boss that an escaped zoo animal caused a lot of traffic this morning.

4. Am I feeling poorly?

You take a deep breath, put a hand to your head and try your hardest to convince yourself that you have a sniffle or a temperature.

Then you remember that there was a mini heatwave this weekend so this winter cold nonsense will not float with your boss.

5. Why did I sleep so late?

Now you are thinking back to last night’s Netflix binge and regretting that decision to watch one more episode which turned into several more and resulted in going to sleep at 3am.

6. Can I take last night’s leftovers for lunch?

Ah, there were great plans to make this the week that you started that health kick, packed full of leafy greens, salmon and quinoa.

But now you are longingly looking at the shiny foil box from last night’s binge and contemplating if you can start being healthy from tomorrow.

One more bad lunch won’t hurt right?

7. Do I need a shower?

You convinced yourself that you can skip a shower, until the whiff of your armpits hits your nostrils and you rush in there pronto.

8. Does this need ironing?

Chances are that the Sunday night plan of ironing turned into a bottle of wine on the sofa, and now here you are hoping that this shirt will magically de-wrinkle itself.

9. I need flexible working hours

Like your mate Alan who works at that start up place, the one with the free smoothies, ice cream every Friday and the ability to stroll in at 10am without anyone batting an eyelid.

You make a mental note to raise this with HR.

10. Why do I even have to work?

For a brief moment you think about opening that business you always wanted of your own. But then you realise that it would involve working even longer hours than you do now, and you come back to your senses.

11. I should travel and find myself

There are several people you know of that are merrily gallivanting across Thailand right now. Maybe you should join them?

But then you remember you have no money, and you decide to find yourself on the way to work.

12. There will be 100% productivity this week

This mind-set lasts until around 10am, and you find yourself secretly reading celeb gossip online.

13. I’m going to the gym at least three times

Yeah, good luck with that.

Your gym kit will remain at the bottom of your wardrobe as per usual.
