Jailed footballer Adam Johnson will mark his first year behind bars on suicide watch.

The shamed ex England star was locked-up for six years in March last year.

And as the one year anniversary of his sentencing approaches, prison officers will be making extra checks on his well-being.

Trusted inmates known as “listeners” on his wing will also engage the former Sunderland winger to make sure coping.

A source said: “The first year in prison is always a trying time and a trigger point for lots of emotions, especially for someone facing a long sentence.
