A woman who volunteered as an aid worker after witnessing horrifying suffering at her home in Syria said: “We have no option but to help.”
Fearless Manal Abazeed, 46, was an accountant before she joined the ranks of the White Helmets, the mercy teams credited with saving countless lives.
Up to a dozen women are now serving with the search and rescue organisation, also known as the Syrian Civil Defence, as the internal war marks its sixth anniversary.
