Armed police descended on a hotel in Salford after a child died in a road traffic collision.
Witnesses said a heavy police presence and around 15 police cars were on the scene at the Ibis Budget Hotel, Trafford Road, in Salford Quays.
Greater Manchester Police said a young boy has died after being hit by a vehicle near the hotel.
In a tweet, it said: “Police responding to collision involving young boy near Ibis hotel in Salford. Boy has sadly died at the scene.”
Officers from Greater Manchester Police’ serious collision investigation unit and emergency services remain at the scene.
Enquiries are on-going.
One witness told the Manchester Evening News that he saw a woman with “blood on her”.
Armed police were reportedly close to the scene and acted as first respondents.
