Arsenal want to sign Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye in the summer.
That is according to The Sun, who say the Gunners have their eye on the Toffees anchorman who has impressed on Merseyside this term.
There is also interest from Spain and Italy for Gueye’s signature as Arsenal look to sign him and turn him into ‘their N’Golo Kante’.
Everton would likely stand to make a huge profit if they did sell him on in the summer having paid just £7.1million for his services last summer.
Sampaoli backs Sanchez to turn Arsenal’s season around
Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli has backed Alexis Sanchez to turn Arsenal’s season around, labelling the forward ‘one of the best in the world’.
Sampaoli coached Sanchez during his stint in charge of Chile, with the duo winning the Copa America title together, writes Mirror Football’s James Whaling.
“He is a top player, one of the best forwards in the world I would say,” Sampaoli said.
“I was lucky to enjoy sharing a time with him in the national team, we went to the World Cup and won a Copa America together. It was a very satisfying moment of my career and great to share it with Alexis.
“He is one of the best strikers in the world and irrespective of the team not going through the best patch of form at the moment, he is a player who can change that.”
Gunners plan sporting director appointment
Arsenal are reportedly considering candidates for a sporting director role.
Arsene Wenger’s future at the Emirates remains the source of much speculation, with the Frenchman’s current deal expiring in the summer.
An offer remains on the table but as yet, there has been no indication on what Wenger will do beyond this season, writes Mirror Football’s Liam Prenderville.
It is widely expected that any replacement would be joined by a sporting director, such is Wenger’s influence in north London.
The Gunners boss knows each and every aspect of the club in detail and any new manager would struggle to assume all of his responsibilities.
