Asda and Lidl are recalling pies and pasties after glass was found inside one their supplier’s products.

Chicken and mushroom, and minced steak and onion slices are being taken off the shelves of Lidl and safety slices warnings issued after a shard from a suspected broken bulb was found by supplier Peter’s Food Service (PFS).

Financier accused of being Putney Bridge pusher says he’s been ‘wrongly implicated’

It also affects steak, and peppered steak, slices from Asda as well as PFS’s own line of ‘premium’ chicken tikka, cheesy bean and sausage, and chicken and bacon slices in addition to its cheese and onion ‘deli’ pasty.

A PFS spokesman said: ‘The safety of our food is of paramount importance and we take all issues regarding the production of our food extremely seriously.

‘We are recalling a small batch…due to possible glass fragments.

‘This is a precaution only.’

Advice from the Food Standards agency is that anyone who has bought any of the products should not eat them and instead return the pies for a full refund.

Death of 17-month-old boy run over at Ibis hotel was ‘truly tragic accident’

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all stores selling the products.

These will explain the reasons for the recall as well as what to do if they have bought a product.

A spokesperson for Lidl told the Sun: ‘We would like to reassure our customers that Lidl only works with reputable, accredited suppliers, who have strict controls and procedures in place to ensure that our products meet the high standards expected by both ourselves and our customers.

‘We are, therefore, very sorry that this was not the case on this occasion and are in close communication with the supplier on this matter.’
