Football fans were unable to stop themselves from trolling Barcelona on Sunday night as the loss of Neymar hit home.
The Catalan club were playing in an El Clasico meeting with Real Madrid simultaneously to their former star making his PSG debut.
Neymar showed no signs of his £198million price tag weighing him down as he put in a man-of-the-match performance in his side’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Guingamp.
He laid on a perfectly weighted pass to assist Edinson Cavani and then scored himself when his team-mate repaid the favour by teeing him up for a simple finish.
Over in Spain, in the first-leg of the Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona were taking on Real Madrid at the Nou Camp.
Taking Neymar’s place in the starting XI was Gerard Deulofeu – a player who failed to make it at Everton and had little impact on loan at AC Milan last season.
Barcelona used a buy-back clause to bring him back from Everton earlier in the summer and with the club failing to yet land transfer targets Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho, he was given his chance against Real Madrid.
Those on Twitter couldn’t help but point out Barcelona had failed to fill the Neymar shaped hole with a fitting replacement.
Expect some fresh bids for Dembele and Coutinho imminently.
