Best Instagram captions to use - and ones to avoid

If you’re feeling a bit Kim Kardashian and need to ‘step up’ your Instagram page then captions are a good way to start.

METRO GRAPHICSWhy isn’t a major fetish site allowing people to share photos of period blood?

Impressing people with your fire captions may be your only option if you don’t have those selfie and contour skills like Kim K (Oh sorry did I say skills, I meant professional makeup artist team and full-time beauty squad along with LED lights and a heavy Photoshop hand)

For people checking out your Instagram pictures, the caption could be a big let down.

A caption is important because it actually says something about you, your picture or what you’re doing.

In many cases you may actually have to caption the picture to explain what you’re doing, where you are or the context of the photo.

You may have just snapped a pretty picture of you, your friends, or some scenery and may want something a little deeper to interest people that little bit further.

First of all, you need to stop being basic.

I know sometimes the most extra of us can just want to be basic, but we always have to be showing our original flavour to our Instagram followers, that’s what Instagram is about – 50 shades of extra.

Here are some basic things you may have put in an Instagram caption that need to be eradicated like a vicious disease. Immediately.

Started from the bottom now we’re here.

What? No you didn’t you started using this caption and you are still at the bottom.

Take me back *insert location*

If the said location was going to actually physically grab you and take you back I would be worried, so no.

Reunited (and it feels so good)

Putting this under a picture of you and a friend is a sure way for everyone to hate you, including your friend.

New Year New Me

No Barbara, same you and you are still basic.

Short hair don’t care

Neither do we

Wanderlust

Girrrl, you went on holiday to Mallorca, calm down.

Selfie

I pray for all the people who lost brain cells reading this word in a caption…of a photo… of the person themselves.

One less problem without you

But everyone has a problem with this basicness.

Sorry not sorry

I still want a formal apology, not good enough.

That ____ though

You mean my eye roll?

It’s five o’clock somewhere

Dear God, if someone puts this under a picture of alcohol, I apologise in advance for my reaction.

Since we have rid you of your basicness, it’s time to give you some inspiration for your captions.

It is best to be original, think of something that relates to your picture, something your followers will relate to, and something that is interesting.

People go on Instagram to see awesome pictures, but they often look that bit further if they are considering following you, and that make or break factor could be your captions.

What message do you want to send out into the world, your caption box is your chance to do it, so don’t squander that on a generic sentiment that people will scroll over.

It is understandable that if you are producing some high quality grams then you have little creativity left when it comes to the caption.

Here are some phrases, and quotes that are safe to use.

Hey girl, feel my sweater. Know what it’s made of? Boyfriend material.

If I was funny, I would have a good Instagram caption.

I think you are lacking vitamin me!

What if I told you, you can eat without posting it on Instagram.

Life is short. False; it’s the longest thing you do.

Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.

We all start as strangers.

Never cry for that person who doesn’t know the value of your tears.

Keep smiling because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.

Weekend, please don’t leave me.

Stay strong, the weekend is coming.

The question isn’t can you, it’s will you?

What do you think of the view?

Friday, my second favourite F word.

Own what’s yours, or else others will try to.

You couldn’t handle me even if I came with instructions.

A true friend will always make you smile, especially when you don’t want to.

Collect moments, not things.

Throw sass around like confetti.

Don’t stress the could haves.

Life is not perfect, but my hair is!

Always classy, never trashy, and a little sassy be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.

When nothing goes right, go left instead.

Wearing the smile *insert name here* gave me.

Someday i’m going to eye roll myself into another dimension.

Throw sass, not shade.

If karma doesn’t hit you, I gladly will.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

A little of what you fancy does you good.

Quotes that will express your true sass to your followers:

‘When a woman becomes her own best friend, life is easier.’ – Diane von Furstenburg

‘Only a true friend would be that truly honest.’ – Shrek

‘True friends are like diamonds – bright, beautiful, valuable, and always in style.’ – Nicole Richie

‘I get by with a little help from my friends.’ – The Beatles

‘An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.’ – Buddha

‘A strong friendship doesn’t need daily conversation or being together. As long as the relationship lives in the heart, true friends never part.’ – Anon

‘There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate.’ – Linda Grayson
