British backpacker who was 'held hostage and raped' on horror road trip in Australian outback breaks her silence

A British backpacker who was allegedly kidnapped and repeatedly raped in Australia has broken her silence.

The 22-year-old woman posted an inspirational quote to social media which touched upon the strength it took not to break down.

The woman was rescued by officers in Queensland after a petrol station owner spotted bruises on her neck and alerted the police.

When officers tracked down the car they found the young woman with serious injuries to her face in an extremely distressed state.

Queensland police then discovered the alleged attacker, 22, from Cairns, hiding in a storage alcove of the Mitsubishi Pajero that had been built into the back of the four-wheel drive vehicle.

The woman, who has not been named for legal reasons, is said to have met the man in January at an Aussie outdoor dance party in Cairns.

While she initially willingly joined him on his travels, he is alleged to have become controlling. This allegedly soon escalated to abuse and holding the 22-year-old against her will.

The man is accused of assaulting her multiple times including wounding her eyebrow that led to her going to hospital.

Police have also charged the man with drug offences after they allegedly seized a small amount of the drug MDMA and a pipe.

He has been charged with four counts of rape, eight counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, four counts of strangulation, two counts of wilful damage, two counts of deprivation of liberty and drug possession charges.

He is also charged with one count of obstruct police.

The man has been refused bail.
