Donald Trump is tweeting screen grabs from Fox News to boast about employment figures

Donald Trump has tweeted screen grabs taken from Fox News claiming hundreds of thousands of jobs were created in February.

Captioning the images with ‘JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!’, the US President is continuing to take credit for growth that many consider to be the result of President Barack Obama’s time in office.

The graphics claim 235,000 jobs were created in the past month, with unemployment at just 4.7 per cent.

Although the numbers may be true, the tweet continues a pattern of Mr Trump promoting claims from Fox News to his millions of followers.

On 3 March, he included the @FoxandFriends handle in a tweet about a “must read” book, moments after the same had been said on Fox News.

Two days later he repeated a Fox News contributor’s criticism of Mr Obama’s approach to Vladimir Putin, copying in the same Twitter handle.

On 26 January, days after becoming President, Mr Trump branded Chelsea Manning, the imprisoned American whistle-blower, an “ungrateful traitor” just 14 minutes after Fox News had said the same.

Whether it was Mr Trump who actually posted the most recent tweet is not clear. The President is thought to use a personal Android phone for Twitter, but the tweet shows it came from an iPhone.

Dan Scavino Jr, White House Director of Social Media for Mr Trump, is widely considered to be the man who posts the less incendiary tweets from the President’s personal account.

During the election campaign, the 70-year-old denounced the official unemployment rate of five per cent as “one of the biggest hoaxes in American modern politics”.

“Don’t believe these phony numbers when you hear 4.9 and 5 per cent unemployment,” Mr. Trump said in his victory speech after the New Hampshire primary in 2016.

Sean Spicer says Donald Trump did not mean Barack Obama personally wire-tapped him during campaign

“The number’s probably 28, 29, as high as 35. In fact, I even heard recently 42 per cent.”

But with similar levels of unemployment since becoming President, the billionaire has said he is “very happy” with the official statistics being reported.
