There’s nothing quite like a Disney villain – the likes of Ursula the Sea Witch, Maleficent and Jafar haunted the dreams of our childhood.
But it turns out that the antagonist of Beauty And The Beast is actually an even more despicable character than we first imagined – and this latest fan theory is going to ruin everything.
Gaston burst onto our screens and into our imaginations in 1991 and drove the narrative of the Disney classic with his creepy pursuit of Belle.
Throughout the film he throws his weight around, frequently abuses his sidekick Lefou, demands to marry Belle by locking her father in an asylum, and exploits the town’s love for him to his own end.
And that’s not all.
Fans have now postulated that Gaston – who regularly boasts about his hunting prowess – was the killer of Bambi’s mum, and the reason why the baby deer grew up without a family.
In the original Bambi movie, the identity of the person who shot the doe was obscured by a flurry of snow.
But eagle-eyed fans spotted a deer’s dead looking very similar to Bambi’s mum mounted in the pub Gaston drinks at – and she’s now thought to have been one of his many hunting trophies.
The theory has been given more credence by the spotting of a doe – again, looking familiar to Disney fans – in Beauty And The Beast’s opening sequence.
Of course, it could be nothing more than coincidence that a famed hunter ends up with a deer’s head on display in his local pub.
But given how much Disney loves to chuck Easter eggs into its films, perhaps there could be more to the theory?
