George Michael’s cousin Andros Georgiou has asked fans of the pop icon to let his family lay him to rest privately to avoid the funeral “turning into a circus”.
After an agonising wait for George’s body to be released, his family are now making preparations for his final send-off.
However, the family has decided to keep the arrangements a secret.
After speculation surrounding George’s funeral continues to mount, Andros posted a lengthy message on Facebook on Saturday.
He wrote: “I would like to thank you, Yog’s fans for your amazing support over the last two and a half months, it has been very hard for all of us, finally we will be able to lay him to rest!
“I would like to ask one last thing of you all and that is to let the family lay him to rest in order to avoid the funeral turning into a circus.
“I know so many of you would want to be there to be able to say your last Goodbye. Please let him be put to rest with as much respect and dignity as possible.”
He added that the family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

“This has been a difficult time for all of you wonderful fans and the messages of support and outpouring of grief I have received through messages has been deeply humbling.
“I know the one thing he would want now is a private funeral as he was under the spotlight all of his life, he was doing well and looking forward to this year when he suddenly passed away on Christmas Day which is a day we will all remember as the day the sun finally came down on us all forever!”
He finished: “I plead with you all and to the press to please let the family have this moment to say our goodbyes.”
Reports suggested that George’s funeral may be taking place today but friends last night denied that suggestion.
It is believed that George’s dad Kyriacos, 75, a Greek-Cypriot, has asked for a small private ceremony in Greek Orthodox style for immediate family and close friends.
The funeral is going ahead after the body was released this week by a coroner who ruled there were no suspicious causes of George’s death.
The ceremony will be followed be a memorial when many more of George’s pals will be invited.
It may also provide fans with a chance to pay tribute to the Careless Whisper singer.
