Gerard Pique has revealed he clashed with Neymar over his now infamous ‘Se queda’ tweet.
The Brazil international completed his world record transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain last week, shortly after Pique had announced on Twitter that his now former teammate was staying put.
Neymar ultimately completed his £198million transfer to the Ligue 1 giants and is set to make his debut against Guingamp on Sunday. With the dust now beginning to settle on his controversial move, Pique insists there are no longer any hard feelings.
‘I don’t feel tricked by Neymar. The day I said ‘he stays’ I knew that he was going 100%. It was the final shot,’ said Pique.
‘He got angry with me but we worked it out. I did it to use my social networks to help this club to keep a player who has a unique talent.
‘It was difficult but I tried to help my club.’
New manager Ernesto Valverde takes charge of his first competitive match in charge of Barcelona in Sunday’s Super Cup against Real Madrid and insists he has been planning for life without Neymar.
‘For Neymar’s absence I have a lot of players who are ready to play. Yu have to look forward, not back.
‘I like the understanding between Deulofeu with Jorid Alba and Lionel Messi but we only have one reference point, the Gamper (trophy) against Chapecoense. It’s very soon.’
