Girls creator Lena Dunham has said that she is ‘proud’ of popstar Taylor Swift, commending the way the 27-year-old delivered her testimony to court on Thursday during her sexual assault case.

Swift is in court regarding an alleged sexual assault which reportedly took place in 2013 when Swift was 23. At a backstage meet and greet, Swift alleges that KYGO radio show host David Mueller put his hand up her dress, and groped her backside.

After the trial kicked off on Monday, Taylor appeared before the judge on Friday August 11, and following her testimony Lena took to Twitter to commend her: ‘Proud of @taylorswift13 for her fierce & cutting testimony & her refusal to settle for being treated like property. Her example is powerful.’

Mr Mueller originally sued the singer for $3m (£2.3) claiming that the singer’s accusations had cost him his job after Taylor filed a complaint against him to the radio station following the alleged groping. Swift counter sued the former KYGO radio DJ, claiming sexual assault and seeking damages of just $1.

However, Mr Mueller’s case was thrown out of court on Friday, when Judge William Martinez said that Mueller could not prove Taylor Swift set out to get him fired, and ruled the pop star not liable.

A jury will now decide if Andrea Swift and her radio liaison Frank Bell should be held accountable for his sacking. Meanwhile, Mr Mueller has maintained his innocence, previously testifying that he did not touch her inappropriately.

‘It’s a humiliating experience to be accused of something that despicable,’ Mueller told the court, according to the NY Daily News.

On Friday Taylor’s former bodyguard Greg Dent confirmed that he witnessed the assault happen, but did not do anything straight away, until he was given cue from Swift to intervene.

‘She reacted, pushed her skirt down and moved over closer to [Mr Mueller’s girlfriend]. So in my opinion, I knew he touched her,’ he said.

However, the I Knew You Were Trouble singer later complained and Mr Dent confronted Mr Mueller at the event.
