After a tense semi-final, we now know who’s heading through to next week’s final showdown, and who’s heading home for good.
The three judges – Mcfly’s Danny Jones, Pixie Lott and will.i.am – had the tough job of cutting their teams in half tonight for four acts each to just two. It was not an easy decision for the trio, with all the kids putting on big and powerful performances.
For Team Danny, the first to go through was Erin L, who performed a Birdy-esque rendition of Coldplay’s Adventure of a Lifetime. Her pared-down performance was in direct contrast to Jones’ second act through to the final – the spritely Courtney, who livened up the stage with a rather spirited version of James Brown’s ‘I Got You (I Feel Good)’.
Jack, who was previously Danny’s favourite, performed an amped up version of Bruno Mars track Just the Way You Are, complete with guitar, and Jess R’s take on Katy Perry’s emotional Unconditionally, but it wasn’t enough to give them a spot in the final showdown next week.
Over on Team Pixie, Jess F got a yes for her version of Tears by Clean Bandit and Louisa Johnson, whilst her second act to go through was Riccardo for his spot-on version of Mariah Carey’s Vision of Love, which is no easy feat for a pre-teen.
Sophia performed an excellent rendition of Demi Lovato’s Stone Cold, as was Lewis’s take on the notoriously hard Jackson 5 tune Who’s Lovin’ You, but with such tough competition they both missed out on going through to the final.
Team will.i.am put pint-sized Jake through first for his rendition of Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop the Feeling, with Gina’s soulful version of Etta James’ At Last bagging her a spot in next week’s final soon after.
Tomorrow evening at 7.10pm on ITV we’ll see the final kids battle it out for the grand prize of a family holiday to Disneyland and £30,000 for their future music careers. Not too shabby for this group of under-18s.
