Lib Dem mayoral candidate's leaflets accidentally say she's from LABOUR

A Lib Dem mayoral campaign has made an unbelievable blunder – by printing leaflets that say their candidate’s from LABOUR.

Beverley Nielsen blamed a local activist for the eye-popping error on leaflets posted through doors in Hall Green, Birmingham.

Voters will go to the polls in May to select the first West Midlands metro mayor, with Tory Andy Street tipped by bookies to win.

And with Ms Nielsen trailing in third behind Labour’s Sion Simon, perhaps she wanted to jump on the bandwagon.

She confessed the party had made the mistake after it was reported by the Birmingham Mail.

“Loving it,” Ms Nielsen tweeted.

“Christopher Bloore, a local Lib Dem from the Hall Green team is kicking himself tonight. I’m sure they were as shocked as us.”

Mr Bloore retweeted the message.

The mayoral election on May 4 will see a step-change in the way Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester are governed.

Key decisions about transport, housing and the economy are being handed down from government to a mayor and combined authority.
