Man, 22, killed in hit and run by suspected drunk driver in horrifying early hours crash

A man has died after being hit by a suspected drink driver in the early hours of this morning.

The 22-year-old was hit by a black Audi A5 in Stockport shortly after 4am. He was rushed to hospital by paramedics but later died.

The driver failed to stop at the scene but police traced the car soon after the crash.

A 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The man was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. Both currently remain in custody for questioning.

Greater Manchester Police have closed off Newby Road and Rutter’s Lane while they examine the scene and carry out enquiries.
