Mexican team have three players sent off in 30 seconds as cup game descends into chaos

A Mexican cup game spiralled out control when the referee sent three players off from the same side in 30 seconds.

Toluca and Morelia were level at 2-2 with just five minutes of normal time remaining of their Copa MX last-16 clash when the home side lost their heads.

Midfielder Jesus Mendez got the ball rolling when he was issued with a second yellow card and was sent to the dressing room.

That didn’t sit well with his team-mates who made a beeline for the referee to protest the decision.

One: Mendez gets a second yellow for a poor tackle
Two: Goalkeeper Talavera goes
Three: Triverio is a goner

Goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera arrived on the scene and was given a second yellow of his own for descent before Enrique Triverio steamed in and shoved the referee who immediately whipped out a straight red.

Eight-man Toluca were able to hang on until the end of the match and force a penalty shootout.

But their poor discipline cost them in the shootout, as they missed their first three spot kicks, while Morelia netted theirs to progress into the last eight.
