Roger Federer just continues to surpass expectations and his latest Wimbledon triumph was arguably his greatest of all.
The Swiss became the first man to win eight titles at the All England Club and for the first time in his own illustrious career, he won a Grand Slam without dropping a set. All at the grand old age of 35.
Although his opponent Marin Cilic was struggling with injury in the final, Federer’s form throughout the year has been nothing short of sensational.
The Swiss won his first major since 2012 at the start of the year at the Australian Open before adding a 19th Grand Slam to his collection here on Sunday, all of which came after six months away from the game at the end of last year..
And he joked he may have to keep on taking more time away from tennis, if he continues being this successful.
‘I’ve got to take more time off,’ he joked.
‘I’m not sure it’ll work this well every time I come back.
‘I wasn’t sure if I was going to be back here in a final. I’ve had some tough ones, especially against Novak [Djokovic] in 2014 and 2015.
‘But I’ve always believed. I kept believing & dreaming’
