This is the moment a violent armed robber was caught by police – hiding between two mattresses.
Bernard Kulewicz was wanted in Poland when he was found at a house in Barnsley.
Police officers had searched the house once before but without success.
The trail eventually led them to a house which appeared only to have a woman and child inside – at first.
The woman who answered door was adamant the wanted man was not there.
And police officers searched the property from top to bottom but couldn’t find the wanted man.
However the officers suspicions were aroused because the woman who answered the door was prepared to leave her young baby upstairs unattended.
Then the officers searched again and found a pair of adult trainers sized eight.
In a back bedroom upstairs they found what looked to be a large mattress with a blanket over it.
Pulling back the blanket they found their suspect lying on the floor wedged between two mattresses pretending to be part of the bed base.
Kulewicz served time in prison in the Czech Republic but had been on the run in Europe
He was arrested in Barnsley in February last year, and was extradited back to prison in Poland on a military flight on November 17, 2016.
He was convicted of a number of offences, including an attack on a shopkeeper, and theft at a petrol station with two accomplices, using an imitation gun and violence against person, and a third incident of using violence to steal money.
In the past six years, West Yorkshire Police’s Extradition Team have arrested more than 400 men and women wanted in other countries.
The incident features in Fugitives, a 15-part series which follows officers in West Yorkshire and central England, who track and arrest wanted foreign nationals from day to day.
Fugitives is on on BBC One at 11am Monday to Friday.
