Happy World Emoji Day, it’s time to celebrate all things emoji related.

Why are so many bras overly padded?

Considering that emojis haven’t really been around for very long, there is no denying their impact in our daily lives.

Are you a fan of the classic winking face? Do you use the upside down face when delivering a sarcastic punchline? And just how often do you use the aubergine one?

This special day was created by Jeremy Burge in 2014, with the sole aim of honouring the greatness of emojis.

Here’s a ranking of some emojis from worst to best.

15. The cowboy

This is the worst emoji of them all. There is quite literally no occasion when this monstrosity would ever be required.

It is a waste of space on your emoji keyboard, and there is something sinister about the way that hat is flared at the sides.

14. The high five

Yes we love a good high five during some sort of group chat. Like when someone announces they are engaged, pregnant or managed to get the last sausage roll at Greggs, a solid high five is appropriate.

But we aren’t happy with this hand emoji, or in fact any of the other hand emojis because they are all based on the right hand.

It’s like us lefties don’t exist.

13. The sick one

This looks like a weird tomato that is in the strange stage of not quite green and not quite red.

Please never use this, and instead just say that you are poorly and leave it at that.

12. The dancing twins

Guaranteed that your Instagram will be flooded with these on Sunday evening as various girl squads are posting group pictures from the weekend shenanigans.

Also heavily used on hen pictures when everyone has got on a matching t-shirt or flower crown. So basic.

11. The thinking one

Something snobbish and sneery about this one. It is commonly used in arguments when someone asks you a question that they already know the answer to, but just want you to admit that you were in the wrong.

Too many bad memories attached to this one.

10. The classic smile

Now, there is nothing wrong with the classic smile, but in a world full of so many emojis, there are better ones to express ourselves rather than this one.

Still a good fail safe when texting your boss.

9. The smirk

Bold, risqué, but acts as buffer allowing you to say slightly daring things and play them off as a joke.

For example, when attempting to see if someone is willing to go on a date with you, sprinkle a few of these around the conversation to make the tone light hearted, and casual.

8. The upside down smile

A classic in the sarcasm toolkit. Great way to sign off a really rubbish message, or when describing something terrible that could only happen to you.

Like paying a lot of money for a fancy haircut, stepping outside the salon and being pooped on by a seagull *upside down smile emoji*.

7. The eye roll

When you’ve been rumbled, or are guilty of doing something this is emoji is a cute and wordless way to confirm your guilt.

A great one to use when your flatmate asks if you ate all of their cheese.

6. The eyes

So many uses, so many occasions and it somehow just works in every single one.

Perfect when your crush sends you a sexy picture, but works fine when you are stuck in an awkward situation at work and you send this to the person next to you.

5. The blushing one

Just so cute, so happy and makes you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

This emoji can do no wrong.

4. The aubergine

It’s amazing how this transformed from being a simple food item, into something much more.

Gal group chats are filled with these, and a well placed aubergine on certain snaps is always a good idea.

3. The heart face

Forget telling people that you love them or miss them, just send this instead.

Expresses it way better.

2. The winking face

An absolute classic, that can help you down play any serious situation and save you whenever you go out on a limb.

Fancy a date? *winking face*.

I broke the TV *winking face*.

You are fired *winking face*.

There is nothing that this emoji cannot make better.

1. The tears of laughter

This is the best emoji ever created, because it is all about laughter and happiness.

If this isn’t in your top three heavily used emojis, well then you need to get some funnier friends.
